I’ve seen some thoughts about this trailer - one that stood out was this,

This looks like such a generic ‘girl rejects her feminine side in favor of acting tomboyish’ with the underlying message that feminine = weak. I hope I’m wrong.

I’m just… so sick of these films. Especially since a lot people consider them to be empowering for young girls and they really, really aren’t.

From here. I think Spiderman the commenter has an interesting point. There’s nothing wrong with being feminine if that’s what you get a kick out of - and being so doesn’t mean you’re dumb, or pandering to steryotypes. The best example I’ve seen is Sansa Stark.

I’m hoping this movie will be more about picking your own destiny (Well, the tagline is “Change your fate”) than sticking it to the man and his hierarchy of stereotypes.

Oh, and how much do you want to bet that all of her official merchandise will be in this “cursed” dress?

BLESS YOU OP. I thought this cliche was dying out. Alas, it seems not.

Reasons above why I’m going to remain cautious about this film. Context matters on what this scene will ultimately mean.

Also, I don’t really trust Pixar for gender stuff already… and then taking the female director off the team? And the first female protag the studio “gives” us is a (white) princess? (a la what Disney does all the time)

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: you don’t have to be part of a monarchy to be worthy of having your story told.

I’m hoping it has more to do with practicality.  Or rather that the dress is a problem because it’s not practical for archery, not because it’s a dress and is feminine.

I have a feeling you guys are looking way to deep into this.
